Crimson Glow Tonic
A couple weeks ago, I asked you guys on Instagram what type of citrus recipe you’d prefer - salad or juice. The votes for each were so close, that I decided to make both! Last week, I released my Winter Citrus & Hazelnut Salad, and this week I’m kicking things off with this detoxifying and energizing juice!
I don’t do diets, and I eat pretty much everything - but that doesn’t mean I’m feasting on decadent meals loaded with red meat/cream/carbs/cheese/etc every day (my poor body would give up on me). I was raised by a nutritionist (my mum), and she taught me the power of good whole foods and a balanced diet. I want to reflect that same balance in my recipes I share here, on Inherited Salt.
It’s the last week of January and that moxy we had charging into 2020 is waning. Needless to say, we all need a little boost. This Crimson Glow Tonic is more than a little boost, it’s like drinking from the fountain of youth - your energy will rise, your skin will glow, and your moxy-meter is gunna sky rocket!
A breakdown of what each ingredient in the juice provides nutritionally:
Beets - lowers blood pressure, energizing/boosts stamina, lots of antioxidants, vitamin C (glowy skin!), anti-inflammatory
Celery - lowers blood pressure, alkalizing, anti-inflammatory, lots of antioxidants, lowers cholesterol, helps with digestion
Carrots - lots of beta-carotene (vitamin A), boosts metabolism, lots of antioxidants, helps prevents lines/wrinkles and boosts glowy skin, boosts immune system
Apples - boosts collagen (glowy skin), good for your heart and liver, lots of antioxidants, boosts immune system
Lemon - vitamin C, helps with digestion, lots of antioxidants, boosts collagen (glowy skin), helps protect against sun damage to skin
Orange/blood orange - lots of vitamin C (glowy skin), anti-inflammatory, lots of antioxidants, lowers cholesterol

Turmeric - anti-inflammatory, can boost brain function, antidepressant benefits, supports heart health, helps to boost your body’s antioxidant capacity

Needless to say, every component in this juice is a powerhouse. This juice can help to boost your stamina, jumpstart your digestion, keep your skin luminous, and so much more!
**Just to be crystal clear, I am by no means a nutritionist, BUT, like I said earlier, my mother is - and she is the credible source I turn to when I decide to approach topics in the realm of health.
Crimson Glow Tonic
Makes approximately 5 to 6 cups
Ingredients
3 medium/large (or 4 to 5 small) beets, washed and trimmed
2 stalks celery, washed
3 medium carrots, washed and trimmed
2 tart apples (granny smith, pink lady, hidden rose, etc), peeled and core removed
1 lemon, peeled and seeds removed
1 naval orange, peeled
1 blood orange, peeled
2 inch piece ginger, peeld
1 ½ inch piece turmeric, peeled
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
Combine all ingredients and 2 cups of water in a blender.
Blend until fully pureed.
Strain through a mesh bag - like these.
Now enjoy! Store remaining juice in fridge for up to 3 days, however more nutrients are in tact when drunk right away or within 24 hours.
A couple things to note:
I do NOT have a juicer, but if you do, no need to add water unless you want to dilute it slightly. A juicer will probably make less than 5 to 6 cups because there isn’t added water.
The juice will already have a zing of spice from the ginger, so if you don’t like too much heat, don’t add any cayenne pepper. I like a juice that packs a punch, so I really enjoy the extra zap from the pinch of cayenne.
Other great ways to enjoy this juice:
As a mocktail - just top with club soda and add a wedge of lime.
As a cocktail - serve over ice with a shot of tequila and add a wedge of lime.
